Instead of sanding tight spaces with paper wrapped around your finger use one of the MultiMasters profiled sanding pads. With 40 more power and soft grip handle, the new MultiMaster uses a broad assortment of accessory blades to handle hundreds of previously manual tasks. The MultiMaster doesnt rotate or orbit like other power tools. The secret? It oscillates! Oscillation permits you to do extremely fine and delicate work or be more aggressive, depending on the accessory and material. If you can afford this tool and expect regular use, by all means have it, it will save you time. I would rather have a simple metal case that opens 180 degrees. Works great for accurate openings in sheetrock and plaster and notching structural members. As others have said the case has shortcomings. Really haven't used it for sanding or scraping yet, however, I expect it will perform well. Would be great to have a battery operated version. However, wish a "rock" blade was made as plaster dulls the $15 blades quickly. So, I use up a lot of expensive blades making cuts I could not do with any other tool.
The quick change blade feature is nice, but keep your fingers out of the way of the "snapper" handle, takes only once to learn it hurts. The Multi-Master and my Hole-Hawg are the only non-battery op tools I regularily use. I've been using the Multi-Master for a couple of months for residential remodel and renovation work, mainly mechanical systems. Once dull the blades turn cherry red-hot fast in plaster to the point I fear the possibility of igniting a fire in dusty, dirty, cobwettey renovation work. For my use I never change speeds, don't know if a setting different than 6 is required.
The product was defective (bad switch) out of the box and was returned to the Amazon supplier. I have not been able to get credit from Amazon or the supplier.
Saves time over a Japanese pull saw, but it will be a long time before it pays for itself. Nice machine - I've borrowed others over the years from fellow trim carpenters and finally took the plunge when the Q series came out. A Trim Carpenter's status symbol.
Quiet,light,and use friendly. Impressively versatile and extremely well built. You can use this tool for so many things. Get rid of some of your others and only carry this one as your main tool. Worth the extra money compared to similar products.
The only reason that I don't give this a 5 star is cost of attachments, but trust me they pay for themselves with your time saved. I recommend this for anyone that ever re-caulks their tub to changing out damaged tile or install crown molding. being a home remodler I don't know how I made it without the Fein Multi-master, this tool is IT. dealing with multiple construction discip[lines I have found benefit from the multi-master daily and continue to find new uses daily. I have used it in almost every task I preform and I have only owned it for a short while.
